Illawarra MiniBlitz

13-14 April, 2018

A community Bioblitz with the OEH threatened species and community team and a tree planting, including training of LALC Rangers in survey techniques.

An awesome bunch of people coming to offer their time to support the collection of data of local native flora/fauna residing around the disturbed lagoon site and hind-dunes around Coomaditchie (near Port Kembla, NSW).

Community Tree Planting day

For the 14th we have a community tree planting day planned for around the lagoon to diversify the site with native species. The planting will go from 9am - 12 pm with a catered lunch (possibly with Fred's Bushtucker - I'm open to suggestions though! - food is not my thang).

Please share any ideas to add to these events, they will contribute to the last of Stage 1 Ngaraba-aan project - with just the short films to go, and will collect some great baseline data which can inform work around the lagoon and along the trail. Plus it will be fun!

The MiniBlitz is targeted at the start of the school holidays so we attract families,The CVA team of volunteers will come and help too as they were the ones who found the GGBF.

Advertised through the Landcare/Bushcare networks and at the Coomie hall, and through the art groups we have engaged as part of the project too. This will make for some nice media attention too.

The other great opportunity is that the BN team will access training support through this event to learn more fauna monitoring techniques with OEH staff. This will help build capacity of BN workers so they can then support future events like this in the area, and possibly integrate more of this work into the restoration services/activities at sites across the Illawarra.
