Look, Record and Learn
Tantawangalo is one of our smaller cemeteries, but it is also one which is much loved and cared for. It has bush on two sides and is attached to the old Tantawangalo Church which is now a private property and a beautiful retreat. Please join us for a journey through time and nature at Tantawangalo Cemetery. Led by expert botanist Jackie Miles and historian Fiona Firth and entimologist and citizen scientist Deb Taylor. Learn how cemeteries provide a glimpse into the life of our rural communities and how they can be a preserve of our region’s original plant and insect life.
Our guests speakers:
We have two quest speakers which we are delighted to have Professor Philip Gibbons will talk on the science of habitat hollows, Philip helped our ‘Bush and Us’ project create a wonderful set of information sheets on tree hollows in the Bega Valley - truely things of beauty and full of information. We are also very glad to have Chris Allen talk about his years of experience working in koala conservation. Chris was active in the Tantawangalo Catchment Protection Association in the late 1980's and 1990's. He will share some of his experiences and knowledge about the forest conservation campaign during that time, particularly of the work to learn about and try to conserve koalas in the Tantawangalo and Yurammie Forests. Please join us for a day of history, ecology, and community!
Look forward to seeing you on the 21st June, please don’t forget to register, it helps with the catering.
