Bug Hunt Australia

Bugs in My Backyard Week - 17th - 23th November

Running from the Monday 17th to Sunday 23rd November, Bugs in My Backyard Week is a dedicated week to help create the first springtime snapshot of bugs across Australia.

Organised by the Invasive Species Council and Invertebrates Australia with support from the Australian Geographic Awards for Nature program, the Bugs in My Backyard project is part of the larger, ongoing national citizen-science project Bug Hunt Australia. Your involvement in the project is not only a fun way to learn what wild and wonderful mini-beasts are flapping, crawling and buzzing their way around your backyard, local park or favourite patch of bushland. By taking part, you become part of a national movement of everyday people contributing to real science and wildlife protection, and add vital knowledge that helps protect lesser-known but critical species and detect invasive species before they spread.

Getting involved in this wonderful project is easy and no special expertise is needed – all you need is a phone and some curiosity! Instructions and more information on the project can be found HERE . Sign up, grab your phone and head on outside with your friends, family and kids to discover the hidden universe of mini-beasts waiting just beyond your doorstep. I promise you'll have fun ... and probably be surprised by what you find!

If you want to see what's already been found, the Bugs in My Backyard project is HERE
